ABOUT MAC
Founded on a shared love for grassroots flying, the Murwillumbah Aero Club (MAC) is dedicated to keeping general aviation accessible, safe, and vibrant. We pride ourselves on maintaining a friendly, down-to-earth atmosphere where aviation knowledge is freely shared, safety is prioritised, and lasting friendships are forged both on the ground and in the air.
From early-morning runway coffees to regular fly-outs across Northern NSW and Southeast Queensland, our club brings together people who share a common passion for the sky.

THE HISTORY
Who was the man that our airfield is named after?
MAC Member John McGregor-Skinner dug out this piece of memorabilia from a 1944 copy of Melbourne’s Argus Newspaper that shows what an amazing and courageous aviator Bob Whittle was.

Early history of MAC
Although general aviation had existed in the Tweed Valley since the 1930s, an Aeroclub first started operation at MAC’s current location under the name the “Tweed-Byron Aero Club” in 27th August 1977 when the clubhouse was officially opened by the Rt. Hon. Doug Anthony MP.
On 6th September 1982 the name was officially changed to the Murwillumbah Aero Club.
The club’s early history is recorded in this document. CLICK HERE
